James Lafferty is apparently not just a hot star on teen drama One Tree Hill, he is also making his mark on the charity scene. While on the show, Lafferty plays the role of star player Nathan Scott, he takes it one notch nobler in real life. For the past four years, he has been hosting an annual charity game geared to raise money for several worthwhile causes around Wilmington , North Carolina , One Tree Hill’s primary location.
This year marks the fifth in the annual event and it will take place on April 26, featuring Sophia Bush and Jackson Brundage, among other notable stars, competing against one another. OneTreeHillFans.com, a site set up by fans and dedicated to the series, also lists other
stars who have confirmed their attendance: among them, Bethany Joy Galeotti, Lee Norris, Paul Johansson, Stephen Colletti, and Mark Schwahn, creator of the series. The proceeds of this year’s event, meanwhile, will primarily go to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , which attends to kids with serious diseases. Also benefiting from this endeavor is Wilmington Family YMCA and Winni’s Garden, an organization which helps homeless pets and animal shelters.
So all for $25, not only will fans get to see their One Tree Hill heartthrob play in real life, they will also get to the chance to interact with their favorite celebrities in an autograph session that follows. And all these while making a difference in others’ lives via the proceeds from the event. Surely, as fans have commented, doing charity work is a positive and welcome way for Lafferty to use his celebrity status and the show’s overall popularity.
